Cambodia: Part Four of Four

Part Four: A Kid's Perspective

I was continually amazed by our children on this trip. There are not many kids that could hold up under these circumstances: 12 Hours of bus and van rides from Vietnam to Cambodia, hot weather with continual sun screen applications, odd meals at odd times, countless hours of touring temples and ruins, walking, walking and more walking. But they did it and will very little complaining. I was really proud of them. It helped that their cousins were along and offered much-needed companionship, distraction and commiseration I'm sure. Here are some of shots of them and some of their thoughts on the trip.

Colin: This is a picture of a monkey. We got to feed them.
They were also wild. I really liked feeding them. There were lots of them.
Trevor: We got to feed them these little berries. They peeled off the skins and
ate what was inside. One of the monkeys stole my whole seed packet and
ran up a tree and ate the whole thing. The monkeys were mischievous and
cute and some of them were mean.

Trevor: This is a picture of a nun giving us bracelets that we put on.
They were more like little pieces of red string that we tied around our wrists.
I think they were to ward off evil spirits. Red is a lucky color in Asia.

Colin: It is me and my cousins and my brother. We're sitting on a temple.
I liked the temples a little bit but I wanted to go home 'cause I was very thirsty.
Trevor: The two other people are Charlie and Teddy. They are our cousins and we were at Angkor Wat. The ruins were interesting but I also thought they were kinda boring (That's not to discourage anyone from going there or seeing the temples. I'm not saying they weren't cool a little bit.). Most of them looked the same: old, gray rocks that had designs on them that were being put back together.

Colin: I loved this. It was a fish massage. It felt like little nibbles
on your feet. It was so, so, so, so fun. I did it on my birthday.
Trevor: This is a picture of the fish massage. You put your feet in and let these
little, tiny fish suck on your toes. We argued about who had the most fish
nibbling on our feet. It was very fun and I would definitely do it again.

Colin: This was the night before my birthday and my mom and dad put
balloons around me when I was still asleep.
I felt happy when I woke up and I got a new iPod Nano!
Trevor: This is Colin. He's asleep and Dad had placed a bunch of
balloons around his bed. I thought he looked funny.
Colin: This is me when I lost my hat. I had to lift this brick to find it.
I thought it might be under this brick. (laughing)
Colin: We were sitting on a temple waiting
for our parents. We were feeling tired.
I wanted water and to go home to play in the pool.
Trevor: By then it was our fourth temple. While our parents listened to the
tour, we were allowed to run ahead, one room at a time. In this one room,
we jumped from this little block in the middle of the
room to the doorway in the other room. That part was fun.
