Hong Kong: Then & Now

Inspired by this site, we printed some old photos from our time in Hong Kong and then retraced our steps, staging a few photos. Some worked out better than others and Trevor and Colin were great sports.

The small temple in Stanley.

This was a group of Dads that got together every Sunday to take our kids to McDonalds for breakfast: McDads we cleverly called ourselves. Stanley Plaza has changed a lot since then but McDonalds is still there!

Ahhh Smugglers with my best friends. "If I could save time in a bottle..."

Then it was off to Ocean Park.

We did some Then and Now shots as well.

Love how the boys got so into the part!

We also got to explore the HKIS HS campus, near where we lived for three years.

It was a fantastic visit to a city that holds many memories for us. More has remained the same than has changed and we even ran into a handful of good friends while there. It was a great opportunity to help the boys make memories of the city where they were born.

  1. What a great idea... so glad you were able to get back and that some things are still the same. I guess you'll actually be able to visit again since you'll be living nearby next year.

  2. Oh my, what a fantastic idea and I have to admit I got a little teary looking at those. Doesn't time fly fast? Glad you had such a wonderful visit "home" to where the boys were born.

  3. Love these then and now posts that you do. Trevor looks so mature in that picture sticking his hand in the water. He also looks an awful lot like his uncle Graham did at certain ages. And Mike looks so immature at Smuggler's. I don't really believe that; I just wanted to maintain the parallel structure.

  4. Wow, so cool guys! I think I took that photo of Trevor with his hand in the water and the little red backpack. The other one makes him look about 14. Nooooo, too fast. Time really flies! Very soon Saigon will be in the past too and you'll be discovering another Asian city. This is all an incredible experience and education for the boys. Maybe some day they'll be showing these sights to their children.
