We were truly living out the international experience this evening. It is Thanksgiving and we wanted to do more than just head home and heat up leftovers, so we headed to our favorite Italian restaurant a couple blocks from our house. The food is always delicious. We ordered some San Miguel beers, three pizzas and enjoyed a nice meal, outside on Thanksgiving evening.
The chef/owner, Fabio Forte (straight from Palermo, Italy) is the nicest guy and always comes out to ask you how the meal is. When he came out we told him that it was Thanksgiving in the US and we had chosen his restaurant becuase we liked it so much. He asked where we were from. When we said Seattle, he brightened up and said that he'd lived there for a year and that his brother owns three restaurants there! We talked some more and I got his brother's cell and the name of the downtown restaurant (we will need to go here when I visit next month!). I decided I needed to get a photo with him for the blog and to show his brother when I visit. I asked if he'd be OK with taking a photo with us and he said he needed to go in and fix his hair first! He came back when we were done with our meal and we took this shot:
He then said that on Tuesdays the restuarant is closed and he usually gets some friends together "for some pasta" and wanted to know if we would like to join them sometime. I left my cell. We'll see what happens.
On this very odd day, when few people even mentioned that is was Thanksgiving and we missed home and family and friends (and cold weather, and turkey, and football, and pumpkin pie, and....) this certainly was a nice way to end. As Fabio said, "The world. A funny place."
Lovely, Mike. Between me and Molly, we'll print out that picture. Molly probably is more savvy about this than I am. Ask Fabio if his brother's restaurant would be a kid-friendly place for Will on my birthday? I'll check it out as well. I want to go somewhere where Will can be comfortable! Loving you and missing you on this day of thanks. You and Ben and your Dad - the things I'm most thankful for always. Love you, Mom
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the story of your HCMC Thanksgiving. It's not what you'd choose but you'll always remember it! We missed you when we had the first thanksgiving in the Forster's new house. It's a nice and comfortable home for them. But I digress... I
ReplyDeletet will be interesting to see if you ever do get a Tuesday invitation. Is that Fabio's wife? Sweet that she came out for the portrait too.
Happy Thanksgiving! I see it's early Friday morning for you. We O'Briens will just be the four of us as well for the holiday. Our friends on Bainbridge were going to come, but after 2 days without power and with icy roads and having to work on Friday, they regretfully declined.
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful for having you all as friends and for all the ways our lives have already been enriched from knowing you. And we look forward to lots more "enrichment" in the future. Your friends, the O'Briens
