Cambodia: Part Two of Four

Part Two: Trees

We had so many photos of these amazing banyan trees that I decided to have a post just for them. It is an unusual situation as these trees are simultaneously destroying the ruins and often are the only thing holding them together. Search flicker and I imagine you can find millions of shots just like these, but when you are there, you cannot help but take your own. This was also the setting for some of the scenes in that great movie, Tomb Raider. Yeah, I know.

We heard stories that the trees are sacred and cannot be cut down. Some believe that the trees move around at night, but we did not see that, as we were only there in the daytime.

  1. TA PROHM! That one was my favorite. The trees destroying the place were sad, but also really mystical. And I saw a beehive that I assume was about the size of what Trevor is.

  3. More good photos and I'm glad you got lots of the ruins with those fantastical roots. I think that's what everyone thinks of when they think of A. Wat. Paige made the point that the Temples are rapidly being destroyed not only by those trees but by the lack of control over visitors behavior, so it's not something to plan on doing 40 years from now. I can't bear to think about that!
