Saigon HEAT!

We taxied with the Dotys to our first ABL (Asean Basketball League) game yesterday. The Saigon Heat vs. Bangkok Cobras game was a crazy mix of what we expect and what we'd never expect.
Available drinks: beer, iced herbal tea, and water, $1 each.
Tickets: open seating in the lower section, $7, upper section $3. Mascot: tiger. Sound effects heard during the game: "Deee-fense, Sai-gon-heat!", piped in crowd noise for free throws, mooing cow, gong.
Uniforms: one player's jersey had a name blocked out with tape, so we just cheered, "Go, Blue Shoes!"
Gym: think '80s mid-sized high school
I can't begin to judge the skill level of the players, but we saw some breakaway shots, some dunks, some spins a la Jeremy Lin.
A Vietnamese SSIS staff member told Mike she saw us while she watched the game on HTV!
The boys tolerated it. Trevor did say about the Saigon Heat Hot Girls, "I bet they paid them a lot to get them to wear those outfits."

  1. Were the nicknames "Unpredictable Traffic" or "Honking Taxis" taken by some other teams in the ABL? Not that "Heat" isn't a perfectly appropriate nickname for your hometown team. Thanks for sharing this interesting slice of life.
