Second First Swim Meet

Last week it was Colin's turn to experience his first swim meet (we posted last year about Trevor's first experience). For two very different boys, these were oddly similar experiences. Both boys worried for days before their first meet and both boys cried immediately before and during their first race, Trevor because he was mistakenly switched out of his best event and Colin because he saw his mother just before his first race.

Both boys swam very well and both were picked to do the butterfly. Both boys are now seeing themselves as swimmers and both ended up with ribbons in the end. We are so proud of them and so thankful for the great program SSIS runs.

The meet began with a pep talk from their amazing coach,

...some stretching...

...and some brotherly support.

Then they were off!

(same shot as above taken from the back...diving off the blocks was a big deal for Colin)

Trevor (second from bottom) on his way to his first victory!

Colin's favorite picture: "I love how you can see the water splashing over me and I look fast."
We found it was VERY hard to photograph a swimmer.

On our way to Carl's Junior to celebrate.

  1. Oh, I was so happy to find this. Thank you for posting! The dear boys are doing well. How broadening it is for them to have learned to swim well enough to be on a team and then to pluck up their courage to do it. Kudos to Dad, Mom, Trevor and Colin. (Just wish I could have been there.)
