We have loved all the cities in Vietnam that start with H.
Hennesseys and Jacksons drove directly from Hue to Hoi An, over the Hai Van Pass (where a helicopter of US Marines lost their lives in 1969).
Hoi An Ancient Town (a world heritage site)
Graham found an article about food in Hoi An,
recommending this banh mi stand outside the market.
Yup. Yum.
We're heading back to Hoi An this month with visiting friends Stephanie and George Malone because Mike missed this trip and because of banh mi and transcendent cao lau.
Really, I can't leave Vietnam without eating cao lau again. (You can't get it anywhere else.)
Hoi An charmed us with weathered yellow walls, temples,
and its famous covered Japanese Bridge.
The village often floods in the rainy season, so homes have large openings in the ceiling of the ground floor through which they hoist their furniture until the water subsides.
That bahn mi was the best, one of my favorite food items of the whole trip. I must admit, however, that the article that led us to that stall was Lauren's, as much as I would like to take credit for the find.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to find that you've not only gotten to H but there are two entries for H. Hooray! I've enjoyed each photo and the memories.
